Flexibility

• Safe Chat is a single messenger that replaces multiple messengers and provides a standard interface to manage chat sessions with multiple popular chat programs, including Yahoo, MSN, AIM (AOL) and ICQ.

Limits

• Allows parents to determine with whom their child can chat.
• Allows parents to set the hours when chatting will be permitted - preventing the child from conversing outside of the hours specified by the parent.
• Forces use of Microsoft Internet Explorer while Safe Chat is operational. Parental override is just a click.
• Prevents tampering with Internet Explorer Restricted sites.

Blocking

• Prevents foul language from being used during a chat session.
  Built-in list of prohibited words and phrases that the parent can customize.  Any language contained in the list will be masked out as *****, while the rest of the phrase will be visible.
• Protects personal information from accidentally being given out (i.e. name, address, city, phone number…whatever the parent decides is private information.)
• Provides a customizable list of known dangerous web-based chat sites that can be blocked and is able to be edited / updated at anytime.
• Intelligent filtering technology can be set to automatically block a site if it detects instances of foul or undesirable language. The sensitivity is controlled, and is easily changed, by the parent.
• Prevents video chat and audio chat from being used during chat sessions
• Prevents Peer-to-Peer network access (inappropriate access of porn videos and photos)

Notifications

• Notifies the parent via email each time a child logs in or attempts to log into their chat account.
• Notifies the parent via email anytime someone attempts to enter a password and enter into the parental control settings panel.

Password protections

• Prevents the child from uninstalling Safe Chat by password protecting the uninstall process.
• Prevents any attempt to circumvent the Safe Chat protections by launching or loading other chat software applications.
• Can not be circumvented in Safe Mode.
• Allows parents to temporarily override Safe Chat protection to allow use of other programs.  A simple right-click of the mouse and entering of the password enables this process.

Control

• Allows parents the choice to block applications from being used when homework should be conducted (games for example).
• Allows parents to bypass filtering and blocking by declaring certain sites as “safe” or approved.
• Allows full use of computer, while enforcing the exceptions chosen by the parents.

Monitoring Activity

• Maintains a complete log of conversations, regardless of the chat network chosen.

Simply put, Safe Chat allows the parent to establish and enforce rules for the use of their computer by their children.  While originally developed to help control the use of Instant Messaging and use of the Internet, it has been enhanced to allow control of resident applications also.  No bad language.  No chatting with unauthorized individuals. No visiting disapproved websites.  Full chat-log history.  Protected installation – can not be uninstalled, deleted or circumvented.
